Text — Proverbs 15:27-29
Message
A story was told of Mr. Greed who went to buy fried bean balls from a road side cook. As the cook turned her back to pick a bowl, Mr. Greed dipped his hands into the bowl of hot bean balls, gripped a hand full and quickly put it in his cap. He then put back the cap on his head with the hot bean balls. Immediately, he started to feel the pain of the heat. After collecting his change, he hurried out of sight and went to a corner of the street. On removing his cap, he discovered that his bald head had peeled off because of the heat from the bean balls. He suffered much pain because of greed.
Greed is defined as the love or desire for riches and earthly possessions. A person can also be greedy for position, food, attention, power or anything else that feeds one’s selfish desire. Greed is a deadly sin; precisely so because it leads to so many other things. When children are greedy, they will steal, deprive others of what is rightfully theirs – all just to get more than enough for themselves. Greedy children always want more and are never satisfied.
As a result, they tend to believe that what they have been given is less than what they deserve and they will begin to stamp their feet on the ground and cry until they are given more. In sharing food, toys and other things with your brothers and sisters, you must be considerate. Do away with all greedy behaviour and treat others the way you would want to be treated. If you have any need, tell it to Jesus. He will satisfy all your desires.
