Key Verse
“Except the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, had been with me,…” Genesis 31:42a
Text — Genesis 31:40-42
Message
“THE FEAR OF ISAAC” means the Person Isaac fears and worships. Jacob was brought up by a God-fearing father. He knew everything his father did was in obedience and honour to God. You can remember that Jacob was very close to his mother. She would have told him how long she waited before he and his brother were born. She could have told him that it was his father’s fear of God, faith and prayer that gave them miracle babies (Genesis 25:21).
Nobody can serve, honour and worship someone he or she does not fear. Fear here stands for a deep awe or respect that keeps you from offending someone great and powerful. It is not enough to call Him your God. Do you fear God? Do you obey and love God more than every other person including yourself, your parents and teachers? It is only the fear of God that can keep you from evil and bring His blessings on you. Therefore, fear God.
