“There shall be no whore of the daughters of Israel, nor a sodomite of the sons of Israel” (Deuteronomy 23:17).

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, the word, whore, is a “somewhat old fashioned” term for “a person who engages in sexual intercourse for pay, a prostitute, a male who engages in sexual acts for money, a promiscuous or immoral woman”. A whore refers to a person who engages in prostitution usually for a fee. Rendered as cult prostitution in several other translations of the Bible, whoredom was a very common practice amongst idolatrous nations that surrounded Israel.
In a bid to preserve His people, Israel, from defilement that would certainly culminate in their immediate and ultimate destruction, God commanded them to avoid every association with those neighbouring heathen nations, who practised such heinous acts as whoredom. God commanded Israel (Micah 1:7) never to accept for atonement or even as a freewill offering, the hire of a whore: that is, the money she gets by her prostitution and the price of a dog (the gains of immorality).
This divine command to separate from defilement and other evils in the society still subsists today. Any attempt by anyone, in any nation to promote any other form of immoral disposition even if favoured by powerful social groups, is a brazen contravention of the commandment of God.
God’s judgment awaits all who indulge in such aberrant practices. They must repent, believe the gospel, receive Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord, and then, come out from among them and be separate.
