The Children’s Bread
Friday, February 20, 2026Key Verse
“But he answered and said, it is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs” (Matthew 15:26).
Text — Matthew 15:21-28
Message
Jesus had withdrawn to the region of Tyre and Sidon, where a Canaanite woman approached Him, asking for healing for her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus responded, “It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and cast it to the dogs” (Matthew 15:26). Surprisingly, the woman was not angry at Christ’s response which was a test of her patience, and pleaded for help and consideration. Jesus, impressed by her faith, healed her daughter. The lesson to be drawn from this passage is that seekers need to be patient when asking for something from God because patience is one of the attributes God looks for in His children. The “children’s bread” refers to the blessings God reserved for His chosen people, the Israelites.
The Canaanite woman was not part of the Jewish community, but through her faith, patience and persistence, Jesus granted her request, showing that God’s blessings can extend beyond the Jewish community to all people who have faith in Him as Creator and Saviour. Jesus can extend His blessings of salvation and healing to you if you believe and trust in Him as Lord.
