“The Brazen Serpent”
Thursday, September 18, 2025Key Verse
“And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.” Numbers 21:9
Text —Numbers 21:4-9
Message
The children of Israel after being delivered from slavery in Egypt were on their way to the promised land. In their journey through the wilderness, they encountered a lot of great difficulties. Instead of trusting God, they complained and murmured against Moses and God. Their unbelief and disobedience attracted God’s punishment. Fiery snakes came into their camp and killed many of the people. When they became sorry for their wrong doing, God instructed Moses to make serpent of brass and hang it on a pole. Anyone who was bitten must look on the serpent of brass to live. So, Moses made a bronze snake and lifted it up on a pole. And all those who obeyed God and looked up at the snake were healed.
The day Adam and Eve sinned, God cursed the snake and it became enemy of man. For the Israelites, the snake again became a sign of death – the punishment for disobedience and rebellion.
Only Jesus can come and make things the way they are meant to be on earth – a place of safety and peace where children would play near snakes. Many years later, Jesus did come, He was lifted up on a cross to die and to bring healing to all those who look to Him. As you look unto Jesus today, He will save you and make you to have eternal life.
