“Honour Your Parents”

“Honour thy father and thy mother, as the LORD thy God hath commanded thee; that thy days may be prolonged, and that it may go well with thee, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee” (Deuteronomy 5:16).
Text — Deuteronomy 5:16-21
Message
Out of the Ten Commandments, the fifth is the first to have a promise attached to it by God, “…that thy days may be prolonged.” Wellness, and peace are other products of keeping this law of God. Those who desire long life, true lasting blessings must honour both their biological and spiritual parents who mentored them to relevance.
Sometimes we are tempted to do things our own way instead of carrying out specified instructions. Rebellion and disobedience are revealed in words or action. Esau’s choice of a wife did not please his parents, Isaac and Rebecca. Instead of genuine repentance and sorrow for the wrong he went further to marry more heathen wives (Genesis 28:8-9). Today`s generation disregard parental instructions, disrespect dignities and dare to bite the fingers that fed them. As a good and responsible born again youth, submit to your godly parental counsel like David, Esther and Joseph. The honour you give to your parents is invariably unto God. He will honour those who also honour Him.
