“He Got More Than Wisdom”
Tuesday, June 17, 2025Key Verse
“Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like” (2 Chronicles 1:12).
Text —2 Chronicles 1:11-17
Message
Confucius holds that, “Humility is the solid foundation of all virtues.” Solomon approached the Lord as a humble, obedient servant, and he was rewarded for his meekness with a wise and understanding heart. Perhaps no other person was ever given a greater gift of wisdom. Solomon was charged to keep the Lord’s commandments and statutes so that the Lord might lengthen his days as king.
The Scripture describes Solomon in the following positive terms: “Solomon loved the LORD, walking in the statutes of David his father” (1 Kings 3:3). Apart from wisdom and understanding, which Solomon received beyond measure, God also gave him what he did not ask for. He also received wealth and fame or riches and honour, which made him the wealthiest king of his era. God also gave Solomon a conditional gift – a long life based on his obedience. However, Solomon began well but later disobeyed God. God only spared him more severe punishment for the sake of his father, David. As you desire wisdom from God, ensure that His blessings and mercy do not lead you to unwise excesses.
