Key Verse
“Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be bur ned?” (Proverbs 6:27).
TEXT — Proverbs 6:27-33
Message
The story was told of a man warned by a minister to quit adultery but was constantly denying any wrongdoing. The man had been committing adultery with his neighbour’s wife anytime the husband was away from home. One day, having got wind of what was happening between his wif and the unrepentant neighbour, the
woman’s husband returned home unexpectedly, caught them redhanded and shot the man dead.
Sexual sins are rampant in the world today. They can take different forms, such as pornography, masturbation, infidelity, lust, fornication, adultery, and unnatural sexual orientations. Sexual sins can occur before marriage, but unfortunately, they are also common within marriage. Many homes and relationships have hit the rocks because of infidelity. Many people have forfeited important positions and privileges due to involvement in these acts.
The text portrays going into fornication or adultery as bringing fire against one’s chest or walking on hot coals. This will not only inflict lasting bodily damage. It is further explained that the damage caused goes beyond physical harm as “he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul” (Proverbs 6:32).
God’s laws are not arbitrary. They allow sexual pleasure within marriage but warn us against destroying ourselves through imprudent actions. If you are involved in any sexual sin, you harbour explosives that can detonate anytime and cause incalculable damage to your body and soul. You must repent today and surrender your life to Christ. He will give you the power to live an overcoming life.
