“Exam Success 2: Reading Skills”

Key Verse

“And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him” (Acts 8: 30-31).

Text —Acts 8:27-35

Message

Do you ever wonder why you read and do not understand? You read, but your reading is not effective. This is because your study habit is not good enough. Just simply reading and re-reading your notebooks and even textbooks is not good enough. Today’s text is a proof that though we can read and write, understanding is another ability on a different level entirely. Your memory needs to be activated; make connections with concepts or topics you are reading; draw examples and use symbols related to the topics; figure out the answers to the problems you are trying to solve; try to memorize and master concepts; try to rewrite the points without looking at the note; and use questions to check-list what you have studied.

You too can attract God’s divine wisdom like Daniel and his three friends in Babylon, if you seek help from His inexhaustible source. He gives to all men liberally. When God answers, you will become smarter and filled with wisdom, knowledge and understanding. Only God’s children can ask Him for gifts. Are you already His child?

Quote

Your memory needs to be activated
