“Emotional Intelligence 5: Social Skills”

Key Verse

“And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins. Use hospitality one to another without grudging” (1 Peter 4:8-9).

Text —1 Peter 4:7-10

Message

Social skills are part of ways of demonstrating emotional intelligence. These skills include: active listening, nonverbal communication like smile, eye contact and other body languages to help us build social bonds that can enhance functional interpersonal relationships. The ability to manage, influence and inspire positive emotions in others goes a long way in impacting their lives positively. Those with good social skills give others full opportunity to express themselves, to decipher emotions in their speech tones while avoiding being judgmental.

Christian youths who exhibit good social skills can easily influence their peers to accept the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Believers are the light and salt of the world, and their lives should radiate the glory of God wherever they are found. Love the brethren, colleagues, and all men within your neigbourhood out of a pure heart. Spend extra time observing, asking and listening to others as they try to make their points. If you are still living in sin, ask God to forgive you so that He can give you the grace that can help you to express Christ-like interpersonal skills.
