Key Verse
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.” (Deuteronomy 4:2).
Text: Deuteronomy 4:1-4.
1.Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers giveth you.
2. Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the Lord your God which I command you.
3. Your eyes have seen what the Lord did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the Lord thy God hath destroyed them from among you.
4. But ye that did cleave unto the Lord your God are alive every one of you this day.
Ken’s mother was afraid because he had become very sick and weak. She decided to take him to see the doctor. The doctor examined Ken and observed that he was very sick. He gave Ken some drugs and warned him and the mother that he must take the drugs as instructed. Ken hates to take drugs. After the first two days, he decided to take the drugs any time he liked. Ken forgot that taking the drugs as the doctor prescribed was for his own good. The condition of his health grew worse and he had to be admitted in the hospital.
The only way God could bless Israel was in their obedience to His commandments. The commandments of God are like “medicine” and when taken as instructed, will give us both physical and spiritual health. Keeping God’s commandment as it is and obeying all His instructions without adding or removing from it, is for our own good. We do ourselves a great harm when we disobey God’s word. It is God’s unchanging word, we must take it as prescribed. Doing exactly what the Lord commands brings blessings of peace, provision, protection in this life and everlasting life in heaven.
