Key Verse
“Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him” (1 Samuel 16:18).

Message
No one really succeeds by chance or accidentally. This is why it is considered wise to use every opportunity that one has to develop oneself properly and prepare for the day of opportunity because “Breakthrough”, they say, “comes when opportunity meets preparations”.
This is true of David, the multi- talented boy. The search for an antidote to Saul’s mental disturbance took the party to the home of Jesse the Bethlehemite, his father. The young man was not only a military prodigy but also a skilled musician and valiant shepherd who could take on and kill wild animals that attacked his father’s flock. God noticed these qualities and marked him for royalty. But he had to start as a harp player and armour-bearer.
Most men fail to see the starting point of the story of their lives as something that must unfold into higher planes of fulfilment in the hands of God. Impatience, inordinate ambition to get there quick and endless complaints bog them down over what they erroneously perceive as a depressing beginning that does not possess the capacity to develop beyond that stage. They do not know the ways of the God who warns against looking down on “the day of small things” nor see such days as precious moments to prepare for their days of opportunity.
When we invite the Lord into our little beginnings, He never allows us to remain at that level nor stay in the valley. Nor does He permit our dreams to stillbirth, stagnate, or shipwreck. God charts our path to a destiny that gives triumph over the vicissitudes of life. Therefore, we must humbly allow Him have His way in all our affairs and watch Him shape us up to greatness in the future no matter how bleak the prospects are.
Thought for the day
