Key Verse
“Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.” 1 Samuel 1:20
Text — 1 Samuel 1:20-28
Message
Samuel was born into the Levite family called Kohath. He was one of the few Biblical characters to have a detailed story of his birth. His story in the Bible began with his mother praying to God for a child because she was barren. The Lord heard her prayers and she became pregnant. She named the baby Samuel which means “the Lord hears.” When Samuel was weaned, Hannah took him to the temple of God at Shiloh to be under the care and training of Eli the Priest. In addition to teaching Samuel about God and His word, Eli gave the child Samuel light duties around the tabernacle such as opening its doors and watching the light.
He was a faithful young servant who enjoyed God’s favor. One night, God called his name and spoke to him directly. What a great privilege. Samuel grew in wisdom and became a prophet, priest, and judge. Samuel’s life reflects –
Submission and saintliness.
An abiding faith in God.
Meekness and lowliness.
Uncompromising stand against worldliness.
Exemplary behavior.
Love and concern for God’s glory.
Obedience is the best way we can show that we love God. Like Samuel, we can remain uncontaminated by the corruption of this world if we place God first in our life.
