“Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:31
Text — Matthew 10:29-31
Message
Sparrows are generally small, plumb brown-grey birds with short tails and stubby, powerful beaks. There are different species of sparrows just like other birds. They feed on seeds, small green birds, tiny insects and worms. Some species of sparrows sing melodious songs. They can be referred to as singing sparrows. Sparrows are small, yet special birds. They are sometimes overlooked because they are so tiny. Jesus uses sparrows as an example of how much God values and love all His creatures. While some people overlook the sparrow, God always sees them and cares for them. Sparrows show us that no creature is beyond the reach of God’s love.
It shows that God values everyone and everything He has made. Since God takes good care of even seemingly insignificant creatures like sparrows, we can trust that God will take good care of us too.Jesus also uses the common insignificant sparrow sold for next to nothing in the market to illustrate God’s meticulous care for His Children. Despite their small monetary value, not a single sparrow falls to the ground without God’s knowledge. The message is clear, if God cares for sparrows, how much more does He value human beings that He made in His own image?
Jesus reassures His friends of their worth in the eyes of God. This divine care extends to every aspect of their lives even the smallest detail of numbering the hairs on their heads. Are you a friend of Jesus? Then you have nothing to fear, God loves you more than sparrows.
