Sunday, January 5, 2025Key Verse
“Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:38).
Text —Matthew 9:35-38
Message
There have been some remarkable prayers in Church history. Take for example, John Knox’s, “Give me Scotland, or I die,” or George Whitefield’s prayer, “Give me souls, or take my soul.” These prayers flowed out of hearts filled with a deep, Christ-like love for souls lost in sin. Such intense passion for souls is required in those who will be effective in winning souls to Christ. History confirms that is the case; both Knox and Whitefield were incredibly successful soul winners.
Effective evangelism stands on two legs: prayer and preaching; either leg cannot stand alone. The Lord Jesus taught His disciples to pray unto God for soul harvesters. Then, in the very next chapter, He made them the answer to their own prayer by sending them out to preach. God needs youths who will be passionate enough to intercede for this generation of young people and then promptly go out to preach the gospel to them. Like John Knox and George Whitefield, you can become God’s instrument to win the lost if only you would be willing.
