“Are You An Isolatee? – Part 1”

Key Verse

“And he said, I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away” (1Kings 19:10).

Text —1 Kings 19:1-10

Message

Elijah was one of the most remarkable and charismatic prophets in the Bible whose ministry was marked with signs, wonders and miracles. He lived at a time when the Northern Kingdom of Israel had gone apostate. He confronted King Ahab with his sins, contended with the prophets of Baal, called down fire from heaven and persuaded the people to confess Jehovah as their God. Yet, he had his weaknesses. He cowered before Jezebel and caved in under her threat.

One of the reasons why Elijah succumbed to fear when threatened by Jezebel was his personality. Elijah was an isolatee.  He had no friends, companions or associates. He lived alone, walked alone and worshipped alone. He was not a part of the fellowship of the brethren. He wrongly assumed there were no godly persons in the land. Therefore, at the time of discouragement and stress, he had nobody to draw strength from. Are you an isolatee? This can be unhealthy. Get up and mix up in the fellowship of the brethren. It is for your own good.

Quote
