“Admonition of Ahab”
Sunday, January 19, 2025Key Verse
“And it came to pass, as if it had been a light thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him” (1 Kings 16:31).
Text —1 Kings 16:30-34

Abomination according to Meriam Webster’s dictionary is something regarded with disgust or hatred: something abominable. Jeroboam the son of Nebat was referenced as one of the worst kings in Israel because of his sins of idolatrous worship. However, unfortunately, Ahab’s abomination superseded that of Jeroboam so that the Bible declares, “But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the Lord, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up. And he did very abominably in following idols, according to all things as did the Amorites, whom the Lord cast out before the children of Israel” (1 Kings 21:25-26). Invariably, sin in any form is abomination before God but much more is the sin of idolatry.
Some youths today exalt footballers, celebrities, academics, money, and career above God. What an abomination! If you are engaging in any disgusting activity like pornography, smoking, drunkenness, addiction to drugs, lesbianism, or homosexuality, you are in the camp of Ahab. Urgently flee now in repentance. It is unfortunate that Ahab died in his abominable state despite being warned. Where do you stand?
