Key Verse
“We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other abounds” (2 Thessalonians 1:3).
— 2 Thessalonians 1:3-5
Message
The apostle Paul and his partners were happy and gave thanks to God because the faith of the brethren in Thessalonica was growing exceedingly. However, growth in faith is not accidental. An effort is needed. According to F. B. Mayer, “Faith is only possible when we are on God’s plan, and stand on God’s promise.” It is useless to pray for increased faith until we have fulfilled the condition of faith. What are these conditions? They include living a holy life, studying God’s Word, praying and meditating on it, and applying God’s promises in all situations. Without a growing faith, the Christian is powerless.
The Thessalonian Church was able to go through their sufferings and persecutions because of their exceedingly growing faith. A believer who wants to live for God must grow from saving to sanctifying faith. Enoch lived a righteous life in a corrupt world through faith. Caleb and Joshua also gave a good report with their great faith. My friend, if you are born again, you have faith; but is it growing? Seek growth in faith.
